Bob Burridge made me do it
The Kaiju Collection began with a challenge from artist and mentor, Bob Burridge, to tell a story with a painting.
That first painting captured the moment a hapless little fisherman was seconds away from being consumed by his enormous catch of the day. Bob and I shared a laugh over it. He then challenged me to create another piece, or even better, an entire series.
The Kaiju Collection is a story of how one might inadvertently end up in a ridiculously terrifying situations. As I worked through each piece, I felt like I was telling the story of my life. Or maybe all our lives. Totally clueless. Trying to make it through everyday. Not knowing, not seeing, not recognizing the danger and imminent death lurking right before each of us. The things that scared me. Or the things that should scare me. And yet, here I am. Still alive.
