Serious about painting. Not so serious about everything else.

I've always loved to draw, paint and make things, but it wasn't until my family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina that it occurred to me I might be an artist. That was 2017. I asked myself, "what does it mean to be an artist anyway?" I've been painting my way toward an answer ever since.

My work is intentionally joyful. I paint small things: circles, animals, wonky vases with and without flowers, kokeshi dolls and beloved objects. Delight is worth taking seriously. I prefer to work in series, sometimes focusing on a single series, sometimes toggling between two series just to add a little excitement. When a series is done, I move on; the paintings stay here as the trail of breadcrumbs.

Before all this I earned a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Statistics. The diplomas are stuffed away somewhere, I’ve forgotten most everything I studied, but I still use my old 0.9 mechanical pencil (for drawing now instead of solving equations).
