Because Bob Burridge insisted I tell him a story
I wanted to paint something using the cantilever composition. But artist and mentor, Bob Burridge, flat out insisted that story, not composition, was the proper starting point to a painting. So what was my story?
‘“How about a guy fishing?” I asked.
“Not a very interesting story” he responded.
I pitched my idea again in more detail.
“Okay…. how about a little guy accidentally catching a monstrously large fish?”
With a big ol’ grin, Bob said, “Now there’s a story.”
When I finished that first painting, Bob nodded at me and then said, “Now make this a series.”
And that’s how The Kaiju Collection was born.
